Mary Queen of Scots was taken to Stirling Castle at 7 months old for protection against Henry VIII's plans to force a marriage between her and his son Edward. Stirling Castle was a secure fortress, and Mary was crowned there at 9 months old, coinciding with the anniversary of the battle of Flodden. Her coronation was the first to use the Honours of Scotland together. Mary lived at Stirling until age 5, then moved to France to marry the Dauphin.
