Fritz Pard was a trailblazer in American football, becoming the first black coach in the NFL. He attended Brown University in 1916, majoring in chemistry and becoming the first black football player at the school, leading the team to the Rose Bowl. After serving in World War I, he was one of only two black players in the American Professional Football Association, which later became the NFL. Despite facing racial slurs and threats, Pard excelled on the field, famously responding to adversity with outstanding performances.
