The US launched its first lunar lander mission in over 50 years with the Paragan spacecraft, built by Astrobotic under a NASA contract. The mission was unsuccessful due to a critical fuel leak, forcing the spacecraft to return to Earth. Astrobotic decided against crash landing on the moon, opting instead for the spacecraft to re-enter Earth's atmosphere. If successful, it would have been the first US moon landing since Apollo 17.
