Venezuela has assumed the presidency of MERCOSUR, despite opposition from founding members Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. These countries question Venezuela's political situation and its alignment with MERCOSUR's regulations. Uruguay, the previous president, did not formally transfer the role to Venezuela. Venezuela views the opposition as a campaign against it, allegedly supported by external forces. President Maduro has asserted that Venezuela will fully exercise its presidency.
