Orchids are a diverse group of plants with around 28,000 species worldwide. They employ unique strategies to attract pollinators, including sexual deception, mimicking the appearance and scent of insects, and resembling other flowers or egg-laying sites. These adaptations result from random genetic mutations and the vast diversity of insects. While these strategies aid in reproduction, orchids' reliance on specific pollinators makes them vulnerable to extinction. Despite this, orchids remain one of the most diverse flowering plants, with their intricate shapes sometimes deceiving even humans.
