Caliph Al-Mu'izz prepared a strong army for this purpose, led by Jawhar al-Siqilli, who successfully conquered Egypt, defeating the Ikhshidid forces. This marked the end of Abbasid influence in Egypt, which then became the center of the Fatimid Caliphate.
