Chile has filed a lawsuit against Bolivia at the International Court of Justice over the status of the Silala River, which Chile claims is an international river with shared rights. Bolivia, however, accuses Chile of artificially diverting the river's waters, which Bolivia considers a natural spring. This legal action follows Bolivia's intention to bring the case to the International Tribunal. The two countries have a history of disputes, including a previous case in 2013 where Bolivia demanded Chile negotiate the return of its lost coastline from a 19th-century war.
