VOICED : Chile exigira visa a autoridades bolivianas

Chile has decided to require visas for future visits by Bolivian officials, marking a new chapter in their complex bilateral relations, which are currently limited to consular levels. This decision follows a visit by Bolivia's foreign minister to Chilean ports, where he alleged mistreatment of Bolivian transporters. In response, Bolivian President Evo Morales accused Chile of a punitive policy and diplomatic distancing. The two countries have a long history of hostilities dating back to the 19th century when Bolivia lost its Pacific coastline to Chile. A 1904 treaty allows Bolivian goods to transit through Chilean ports, but Chile claims it provides more port facilities than required. The nations are currently in the International Court of Justice over Bolivia's demand for sovereign sea access.
