In Peru, tourists are given condoms to prevent Zika transmission, as the virus is often asymptomatic. The first local Zika case involved a 32-year-old who contracted the virus through sexual contact with a partner from Venezuela. Both have recovered. Amidst the Zika, chikungunya, and dengue epidemics, Peru maintains strict surveillance of the Aedes aegypti mosquito in areas with dengue history.
