VOICED : Penas de hasta 13 anos de carcel para lideres independentistas catalanes

In 2017, nine Catalan leaders were sentenced to 9-13 years in prison for their failed secession attempt. Oriol Junqueras received the harshest sentence of 13 years for sedition and misuse of funds. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called for a new era of dialogue and adherence to the law in Catalonia. Meanwhile, Catalan President Joaquín Torra and former President Carles Puigdemont criticized the sentences as unjust and politically motivated. Puigdemont, currently in Belgium, described the ruling as a barbarity and urged for a strong reaction.
