Chu Twan, after failing civil service exams, had visions and believed he was Jesus' brother. He founded the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, opposing the Qing dynasty and advocating reforms. The Taiping expanded rapidly, capturing key cities but faced internal strife and external pressures. Despite initial successes, they were eventually defeated by Qing forces with Western aid, leading to the end of the Taiping Rebellion, which significantly weakened the Qing dynasty.
