Joe Biden has begun dismantling the 'Remain in Mexico' immigration policy implemented by Donald Trump. Starting February 19, asylum seekers forced to stay in Mexico will be admitted to the U.S. The Department of Homeland Security will initially process 25,000 active cases under the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP). Since its inception in January 2019, the MPP has returned at least 70,000 people to Mexico. Trump's immigration policies, including the border wall and zero-tolerance policy, were aimed at curbing illegal immigration. Biden's administration plans to reverse controversial measures, reunite separated families, and establish a safe, orderly, and humane immigration system.
