VOICED : Justicia argentina condena a 4 años y medio de prisión a obispo por abuso sexual

An Argentine bishop, Gustavo Óscar Sancheta, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for sexual abuse against two seminarians. The trial took place in Orán, and the bishop, who is close to Pope Francis, was present. The sentence was for continuous and aggravated simple sexual abuse by a religious minister. The bishop plans to appeal the decision. Sancheta resigned from his pastoral duties in 2017 and was later appointed as an advisor in the Vatican. The allegations were made in 2018, and the incidents allegedly occurred between 2014 and 2015. The victims expressed mixed feelings about the verdict, seeking a harsher sentence but acknowledging justice was served. The Vatican launched its own investigation in 2019, suspending Sancheta from his advisory role. Besides this case, Sancheta faces other charges in Argentina for economic mismanagement and abuse of power.
