Mexico is tirelessly searching for survivors after a devastating earthquake struck, resulting in over 200 deaths, primarily in Mexico City and the states of Puebla and Morelos. Rescue efforts are concentrated in the southern part of the capital and the Roma Condesa corridor. A school collapse in the city's south claimed the lives of at least 21 children, with military and volunteers working through the night. Approximately 40 buildings in Mexico City have collapsed. The 7.1 magnitude quake occurred 32 years after the 1985 earthquake that left the city partially destroyed. Earlier, on September 7, an 8.1 magnitude quake, the strongest in a century, caused 96 deaths in southern Mexico.
