In Santiago, a thousand people gathered at Plaza de Italia, the epicenter of protests since last year. Clashes occurred between protesters and militarized police, who deployed numerous agents and vehicles. Protesters threw stones, and police responded with water cannons, causing health issues due to chemical-laden water. Protesters demanded the release of detainees held for over a year, mostly in preventive detention. The protest happened five days after the approval of drafting a new constitution to replace the one from Pinochet's dictatorship, a key demand of the protests.
