Johnson & Johnson Ordered To Pay $750M In Baby Powder Case

A New Jersey jury ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay $750 million in punitive damages to four plaintiffs who claimed asbestos in talc products caused their cancer. State laws reduced this to $185 million. This trial was the first where CEO Alex Gorsky testified about product safety. The company faces lawsuits from 16,800 plaintiffs and recalled 33,000 bottles of baby powder in 2019 after the FDA found asbestos traces. Johnson & Johnson plans to appeal the verdicts.
