Alfred, a pug, feels unlovable due to the negative remarks from a cat, parrot, and goldfish. Neighborhood dogs also mock him for his appearance. Despite this, Alfred befriends Rex, a new dog next door, by pretending to be a golden retriever. They share common interests, but Alfred worries about Rex discovering his true identity. Eventually, Rex digs under the fence to meet Alfred and discovers they are both pugs. Rex accepts Alfred for who he is, and they become true friends, allowing Alfred to feel lovable and accepted.
