When do referendums occur?

• Referendums occur when citizens vote to accept or reject a law.

• Referendums take place when a government decides to change its leadership.
• Referendums are held exclusively for constitutional amendments.
• Referendums occur only during national elections.

Referendums are people -

• deciding to reject a public official.

• deciding if they like the standard of living

• deciding to keep or remove a law ALREADY passed

• deciding if they want to vote democrat or republican

Initiative allows people to-

• make their own laws

• elect the president

• create a petition for signatures/ support a law

Both referendum and initiative allow people-

• to let their representatives choose senator

• to have a DIRECT say in the lawmaking process

• to pay less taxes based on income

• to directly elect senators
