Kaffee und Kuchen

The learning goal today is to learn some phrases to use when at a restaurant, through context. Add these to your notes as you see each question. 

 

Was darf ich Ihnen bringen? means...

• What may I bring you?

• What may I bring you?

"Ich möchte bitte" means...

"Den Käsekuchen kann ich sehr empfehlen" means

• I eat the cheesecake.

• Do NOT get the cheesecake.

• I recommend the cheesecake.

"Dann nehme ich" means...

"Möchten Sie den Kuchen mit oder ohne Sahne?"  means

• Would you like the cake at the same time as the drinks?

• Would you like the cake with or without whipped cream?

"kommt sofort"  means

• coming right up

• I'm outta here

If you were at a German café right now, what would you rather have, Käsekuchen oder Apfelkuchen?

Pretend you have to order it in German... what would you say?

"Der sieht gut aus" mean

• That looks good.

• Can I have a bite?

In Germany, if you want the check, you must ask for it. A waiter will not simply bring the check at the end of the meal. This man says 'Wir möchten bitte zahlen." to ask for the check. What does the phrase mean? 

• We would like to pay please.

• We would like more cake please.

• We are done.

• cash or card

• separately or together

• Coke or Pepsi
