Free Printable Pie Charts Worksheets for Year 6

Sixth graders move beyond simple interpretation to construction. They are expected to create a pie chart from a raw data set, which involves calculating the total, determining the percentage each category represents, and then drawing the chart.

Give students a data table and have them build a pie chart from scratch. As an extension aligned with geometry standards, introduce how to calculate the central angle for each sector by finding the percentage of 360 degrees (e.g., 25% of 360° = 90°).

These worksheets focus heavily on ratio and proportional reasoning. Students practice calculating percentages from raw data, using those percentages to construct a chart, and interpreting data to solve complex, multi-step problems.

The most common difficulty lies in the initial calculations. Students may make arithmetic errors when finding the total or when calculating the percentage each category represents of that total. A small error at this stage can throw off the entire chart.

Wayground worksheets are flexible. You can print the PDF for students to complete on paper, then use the Wayground for Teachers app to quickly scan and grade their work. Alternatively, you can assign it as a digital activity on the platform. A full answer key is always provided.

This topic directly supports the major work of Grade 6 Common Core standards in Ratios and Proportional Relationships (6.RP). Creating a pie chart requires students to find the percent of a quantity as a rate per 100, which is a foundational concept for understanding ratios and solving rate problems.

For students needing support, provide a data table where the total is a simple number like 100. For an extra challenge, ask students to collect their own classroom data (e.g., hours spent on homework per week) and create a complete report with a pie chart and written analysis.
