Ms. Interest, a parent that often volunteers at the school, sometimes gets the cold shoulder when she enters her son’s classroom. It seems to be happening quite frequently. Ms. Interest just wants to help. She knows how organized her son’s teacher is and how she always provides great learning activities. Her son’s work is on display in the hall and she loves to see it. She has decided it is time to talk to Mr. Efficient, the principal. Maybe the teacher just has too much to do!

Little Gabby loves school and loves to talk. Her teacher, Ms. Happy, placed her on a token economy system for her behavior after reviewing the rules and regulations. Gabby loves getting tokens for being quiet and getting her work done. Sometimes Ms. Happy ignores her talking and keeps right on teaching. But most of the time she helps her by giving her hand signals or a big smile. Ms. Happy never lets her interrupt the lessons though. Ms. Happy is a great teacher.

Ms. Grumpy is always frustrated. She does not understand why the students cannot learn. Tom Trying cannot produce the correct answer. Tom gave an answer and it was incorrect. Now her response is simply…if you would pay closer attention you would know the answer? Tom just does not try sometimes.

Mr. Martin Middle loves teaching seventh graders. He is relaxed and never worries. He has the rules stated on a chart. Upon completing an observation, his principal, Ms. Rigor, noted the following: “Several students were on different applications on their iPad. Two of the students were fumbling in their desks. Other students were engaged but were finding it increasingly difficult to focus.” Mr. Middle addressed a few behaviors but never addressed the students fumbling in the desk. Finally, at the end of the lesson Mr. Middle had enough and “preached” to the whole class.

Ms. Sunshine is trying to get to know all of her students. She often surveys them and chats with them during lunch. She often attends sporting events at the high school. Her classroom reflects a culture of students helping others. The kids are always sharing and working in groups. She really wants to know her students and often ask their opinions.
