A narrator is telling the story. We MAY know what multiple characters are thinking.

"You wake up and you get out a bed. You hear a sound and you go down the hall."

Giving the reader hints about what might happen in the future.

When two or more characters are in a verbal or physical disagreement.

When the reader / audience knows something the other characters do not.

The outcome of a situation is opposite of what you expected to happen.
