The Crying Stone
Long time ago, in a small village, there lived a girl with her mother. The girl was very beautiful. Every day she put make-up and wore her best clothes. She did not like to help her mother work in the field. The girl was very lazy.
One day, the mother asked the girl to accompany her to go to the market to buy some food. At first the girl refused, but the mother persuaded her by saying they were going to buy new clothes. The girl finally agreed. She asked her mother to walk behind her. She did not want to walk side by side with her mother.
Although her mother was very sad, she agreed to walk behind her daughter. On the way to the market, everybody admired the girl's beauty. They were so curious. Behind the beautiful girl, there was an old woman with a simple dress. The girl and her mother looked very different.
"Hello, pretty lady. Who is the woman behind you?" asked them.
“She is my servant,” answered the girl.
The mother was very sad, but she did not say anything. The girl and the mother then met other people. "Hello, beauty. Who is the woman behind you?" asked them again. The girl answered that her mother was her servant.
She always said that her mother was her servant every time they met new people. At last, the mother could not hold the pain anymore. She prayed to God to punish her daughter. God answered her prayer. Slowly, the girl's leg turned into stone. The process continued to the upper part of the girl's body. The girl was panic and scared. She finally realized her mistakes.
"Mother, please forgive me!" she cried and asked her mother to forgive her.
But it was too late. Her whole body finally became a big stone. Until now people still can see tears falling down the stone. People then call it the crying stone or in Indonesian means batu menangis.

Bekantan
Bekantan or in scientific name Nasalis larvatus is a type of long-nosed monkeys with reddish brown hair and is one of two species in a single genus of Nasalis monkeys.
The main characteristics that distinguish bekantan from other monkeys are long and large nose which is only owned by male species. The function of large nose on the male bekantan is still not clear, but it may be caused by natural selection. Female monkeys prefer males with larger noses as a partner. Bekantan are also known as Holland Monkeys, because of their nose. In the Brunei language they are called bangkatan.
Male bekantan are larger than females. They can reach sizes of up to 75 cm and weigh up to 24 kg. Female bekantan typically measure around 60 cm in size and weigh approximately 12 kg. This species also has a large belly, which is a result of its dietary habits. In addition to fruits and grains, bekantan also eat a variety of leaves, which can produce a significant amount of gas when digested. This side effect often causes the stomach of the bekantan to bulge.
Bekantan spread and endemic in mangroves, wetlands and coastal forests on the Borneo island (Kalimantan, Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei). This species spends most of their time on the trees and live in groups of between 10 to 32 monkeys. Social system of Bekantan is basically a One-male group, a group consisting of one adult male, several adult females and their children. Besides, there is also the all-male group, which consists of several male bekantan. Male teenager is going out of one-male group and joins to all-male group. This was made possible as a strategy of bekantan to prevent inbreeding. Bekantan can swim well, sometimes seen swimming from one island to another. To support the ability of swimming, there are membranes on the sidelines of bekantan’s toes. Besides expert in swimming, bekantan can also dive in a few seconds, so that the nose is also equipped with a kind of valve.
Bekantan is the animal mascot of South Kalimantan province. Based on the loss of forest habitat and continuing illegal arrests, as well as very limited habitat area and population, it is evaluated as Endangered Animals in the IUCN Red List.
