6th Grade Area of a Circle Sector Quizzes

Begin with a circle divided into equal parts and connect the central angle to a fraction of 360°. Once students see that a 90° sector is one-fourth of a circle, introduce the calculation: sector area = central angle ÷ 360 × πr².

Use a short progression: identify the fraction of the circle, calculate the whole circle’s area, and then find the sector’s share. Include familiar angles such as 90°, 120°, and 180° before assigning problems with less obvious fractions or real-world contexts.

Students often use the diameter instead of the radius, forget to square the radius, or multiply by the central angle without dividing by 360. A useful check is to ask whether the result makes sense: a sector smaller than half the circle must have less than half its area.
