Creating a visual representation of your code output.

The area of a computer that notes from a program can be printed to. Kind of like a notebook.

Part of an existing string. A string is a variable type that holds words or phrases and are surrounded with quotation marks " ".

Its sign looks like this %. It measures the remainder of a division. For example, 13 % 5 = 3

Another word for a string. "Hello" is an example.

A string that takes up more than one line. ' ' ' Here is my string that takes more than one line ' ' '

A keyword that specifically changes a program in a certain way. variable.method( )

These methods change a string between lower and upper case. variableone.upper( ) variabletwo.lower( )

Changes characters in a string with something else. variableone.replace("yellow", "green")

Measures what position a character or item is in the sequence. Indexing begins counting at "0".

This is how to concatenate numbers with strings. string1 = "I have { } fish for pets" pets = 10 string1.format (pets)

{ } Used in CSS to style html tags. Opening and closing curly braces work like opening and closing tags in HTML. Also called curly brackets or just braces.

Programmers use the tab key to indent lines of code to make the code easier to read and understand. Elements have a parent-child relationship and child elements are indented underneath parent elements.

What catches everything that does not fit into the if statement. if (condition) { //code to be run if condition is met } else { //code to be run if condition is not met }

The character that compares two things. = >

When you want two conditions to be met, use && for JavaScript and the word "and" for Python. This means AND.

When you want to check to see if one condition OR another condition is met. For JavaScript, use || condition one || condition two. This symbol "|" can usually be found below the delete button. For Python, use the word "or."

A group of data that uses [ ] brackets and can be changed.

A group of data that cannot be changed. Created with ( ) parentheses.

A group of data that is paired. Created with { } curly braces. They can be changed.

An individual value in a list that is assigned a unique index.

Applies code to each piece of data in a data group. friends = ["Jane", "Bob", "Francis"] for x in friends: print(x)

Includes a series of numbers that are consecutive. 3, 4, 5 or 16, 17, 18, 19 are both ranges.

A chunk of code that only runs when it is called. def porcupine():

When a function is called, that means you tell the function to run its code. functionname();

python function parameter

The information inside the parentheses that gets passed into a function. Example: def porcupine(name): 'name' is the parameter and 'porcupine' is the function.
