A system made up of group of people
Make rules (laws) to keep the community safe and functioning
Provides a system to decide who makes decisions

Anyone could do whatever they wanted. There wouldn't be any laws that people should follow or anyone to enforce the laws we have.

There are many different types of government with different rules and ways to separate power

Democracy
The focus of democracy is the power is with the people.
People vote for Representatives that will speak for their town/state
The United States is an example of a democracy as well as many others

Monarchy
Control of government is in the hands of a Monarch (King, Queen)
Usually they are in charge for life and their children become the new Monarch
An example of a Monarchy is England (UK), Australia, Japan, Canada

Socialism
In Socialism, government controls the means of production.
This means, government is in control of businesses and property
An example of Socialism is Venezuela, Armenia, Bolivia

Dictatorship
One ruler who has absolute power (there are no rules that person must follow)
They can make any decision they would like
An example of this type of Government has been the Nazi Party in Germany which fell after WW2 ended in 1945
