French - Affirmative or Negative?

Objective: to recognize affirmative or negative statements or questions.

When NE precedes a verb that starts with a vowel, we drop the E and replace it with an apostrophe.

• Il ne s'appelle pas Louis. Mme Niemann ne va pas bien.

To make a sentence negative we use "ne.....pas" around the verb.

• Je n'ai pas vingt ans. Elle n'a pas de* crayon.

• *note that un, une and des become de in a negative sentence.
