Cutting Techniques

  • When you're using a knife, cut away from your fingers out of the knife's path.

  • If you need to, you can optionally hold down a piece of food by spearing it with a fork.

  • Place the item you are cutting on a flat, stable surface such as a cutting board.

  • Put a damp paper towel or dish towel under the cutting board to keep it stable.

Fire Safety

When lighting a fire, you should always try to minimize your impact on your environment. We often use camp stoves to cook as they are easier to regulate heat to prevent burning and they take less time to set up when compared to a campfire.

Fire Safety

  • Use camping stoves only where allowed and only with adult supervisions.

  • Never use a stove inside a tent or cabin. There is a danger of fire and of poisoning by odorless gas fumes.

  • Stoves sometimes flare up. Keep your head and hands to one side of a stove as you light and adjust it.

  • Never leave a burning stove unattended.

  • Allow hot stoves to cool before cleaning them and storing them away.
