Plates of a Formal Dinner Setting

  • First place the charger plate (a.k.a serving plate)

  • Then place your dinner plate on top of the charger plate.

  • Then your salad plate or soup bowl will go on top of your dinner plate

Silverware of a Formal Dinner Setting

  • On the right side of your plate will go your dinner knife, with the cutting edge facing the plates.

  • Then you will place the teaspoon next to the dinner knife.

  • Then next will come the Soup Spoon.

  • On the left side, the closest one to the plate will be the salad fork.

  • Then comes the dinner fork.

  • The last one will be the fish fork.
