Learning Objective

I can use integers to represent real-world situations

8

There are words that represent positive situations, negative situations and zero situations

Let's view some of them

-VIDEO-

9

Real-World Example

Temperature has positives, negatives and zero.

-Temperature colder than zero is a negative integer

-Temperature warmer than zero is a positive integer

-Zero in this situation is 0 degrees

Temperature

-As temperatures get warmer we move up on the number line

-As temperatures get colder we move down on the number line

-In celsius, 0 is the freezing point

Real-World Example

  • Elevation has positive, negative and zero examples

  • Sea Level is equal to zero

  • Above Sea Level is a positive integer

  • Below Sea Level is a negative integer

  • As we go up from sea level on the vertical number line we use a positive number

  • As we go down from sea level on the vertical number line we use a negative number

  • Reminder - Zero is average sea level

  • Sea Level = 0
