The King was mad about fighting this war to protect the British colonists.

Remember! Fighting wars are expensive. The King of England and Parliament believed that if they were going to spend money and resources protecting the colonists, then the colonists should at least pay for it.

The French and Indian War cost us a lot of money. We protected the colonists. They should help pay for the cost with a tax.

After taxes like the stamp act, the sugar act, as well as after the Boston Massacre, the King of England started the Tea Act. This act placed a very high tax on tea.
Even though this act lowered the price of tea, it still heavily taxed the colonists. They did not like being taxed without representation in England.

While Samuel Adams and Paul Revere were happy with the Boston Tea Party, other people like Benjamin Franklin and George Washington were not happy. They even offered to pay the British the amount of money owed for the tea.

Delegates from 12 Colonies met in Philadelphia to discuss what to do about British actions against the Colonies.

The British Parliament passed the Coercive Acts in 1774 to punish the colonies for their resistance to British rule.
The laws targeted Boston, Massachusetts (the location of the Boston Tea Party).
The British hoped that the colonies would recognize the authority of Parliament and stop resisting.
American colonists called these laws the “Intolerable Acts.” Intolerable = unbearable or painful.
Rather than giving up, the colonists fought back even more.
