English Bagrut Project:
Cultural Diversity
Stage 5: The Foreword
2
So what in fact is a Foreword?
As the name suggests, it is a "word" before the reader actually reads the project. It's a way of telling the reader why this project was done, why this topic was chosen, why done alone or in pairs, where information was found...in short, the rationale behind YOUR project.
3
The Foreword should :
contain 2 brief paragraphs, as follows:
4
Paragraph One
Why you are doing this project (English Bagrut Project)
What the umbrella topic is (Cultural Diversity)
What is the general topic you chose to research (stated generally, NOT as your research questions)
Why you chose this particular topic
5
Paragraph Two
Why you chose to work alone/in a group
Where you got assistance (your sources, Internet sites, questionnaires, surveys, personal help
6
Example of Paragraph 1:
The umbrella topic for our English Bagrut Project is Cultural Diversity. After giving it a great deal of thought, I decided to do my research about the Arab-Israeli conflict. Seeing as I’m a new immigrant and I chose Israel as my home, it’s important to me to know a bit more about the history of my country, and to discover what led to the bitter conflict that has existed since the very start of the existence of the state of Israel. This topic fascinates me and I think it’s an important part of being an Israeli citizen.

Example of Paragraph 2:
I chose to work alone on my project, as I am quite independent and don’t like to depend on anyone else. I like to take control of my own studies, and from my past experience, that’s how I do my best work. My resources came mostly from university sites on the Internet as well as some newspaper articles written by historians. In addition, I did a survey in order to learn about our American partners' opinions.

Don't forget...
like the pieces of a puzzle, each part of your project helps create a great result.
