One independent clause
Example: The dog loves to chase the cat around the house.

Two independent clauses
Joined by a comma & coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS) or...
Joined by a semicolon or...
Joined by a conjunctive adverb and semicolon
Example: We are going to the park, and we are going to play soccer.
Example: We are going to the park; we are going to play soccer.
Example: We are going to the park; additionally, we are going to play soccer.

A complex sentence is...
One independent clause and one dependent clause joined with a sub con.
If the dependent clause comes first, a comma is used to separate it from the independent clause.
A comma is not used to separate an independent clause and dependent clause when the independent clause comes first.
Example: Because I stayed up late, I was very tired in the morning.
Example: I was very tired in the morning because I stayed up late.

A compound complex sentence is...
Two independent clauses and one dependent clause.
Example: Although Ben likes to go camping, he hasn't had time lately, and he can't find anyone who would like to go.
Dependent clause: Although Ben likes to go camping
Independent Clause: He hasn't had time lately.
Independent Clause: He can't find anyone who would like to go.
