The scroll is located on the top of the instrument and looks like a craved scroll of paper.

The pegs are used to tune the string. You should not turn these until your teacher shows you how.

The peg box is where the strings are wound around the pegs.

The nut is a small piece of wood that holds the string above the fingerboard.

The strings are what produce sound. They are be plucked or bowed.

The tailpiece holds the strings and the fine tuners.

The "F" Holes

The f-holes are openings in the top of the instrument where sound comes out.

the sound post is on the inside of the instrument. It helps creates vibrations.

For violins and viola players, your jaw will rest on the chin rest.

The End Button

the end button is only on violins and violas. It holds the tailpiece onto the instrument. (It is NOT glued in place)

The end pin on cellos and basses extends to help the instrument rest on the floor.
