masc/sing - el

fem/sing - la

masc/pl - los

fem/pl - las

Make sure that the article agrees with the noun it is describing:

• in NUMBER

• in GENDER

Definite articles:

In Spanish, definite articles are used MUCH more frequently than in English.

In Spanish, definite articles are sometimes not translated to English (for example - on your vocab lists)

In Spanish, definite articles ALWAYS agree with the GENDER & NUMBER of the noun they are modifying

The SINGULAR forms mean:

masc/sing = UN

fem/sing = UNA

The PLURAL forms mean:

masc/pl = UNOS

fem/pl = UNAS

Making PLURALS

To make plural simply ADD...

.....S to words that end in a vowel

....ES to words that end in a consonant

EXAMPLES:

profesora --> profesoras

papel--> papeles

ARTICLES and their "plurals"

DEFINITE articles

el --> LOS

la --> LAS

INDEFINITE articles

un--> UNOS

una--> UNAS

SER = to be

ES = he/she/it IS

the PLURAL form is

SON = they ARE
