General Topic Sentences

• Name the main idea of the paragraph

• Examples:

• The east coast was slammed with a snowstorm.

• The Super Bowl pits the best of two leagues against each other.

Clueing Topic Sentences

• CLUEING TOPIC SENTENCES: name the main idea of the paragraph and gives a clue about the details. 

• Examples:

• Several states along the east coast was slammed with a snowstorm.

• The Super Bowl has a number of traditions and superstitions

Specific Topic Sentences

• SPECIFIC TOPIC SENTENCES list the exact details that will be covered in the paragraph. 

• Examples:

• Air pollution is caused by vehicles and industries.

• Charles Darwin lived an interesting life as an explorer, writer, and scientist.
