The Causes of Shays Rebellion:

The Farmers were angry!!

​Why were they angry?

Causes of Shay's Rebellion:

• Farmers were upset about the amount of taxes that had been placed on

• Land was also being taken away

• Due to the weakness of the Government, nothing could be done.

• Seized the courthouse and the jail and freed those who were in side due to not being able to pay the high taxes ( debtors)

As a result of the high taxes imposed on farmers in order to fund debt that came from the war:

• Farmers petitioned state legislators

• the petition asked for more paper money

• stay laws ( forbidding the collection of debts)

As a result of the petition:

• the legislature raised the already high taxes,
