French Revolution

An important world event that marked the path of history was the French Revolution which took place between the years 1789 and 1799.

Beginning of the revolution:

  • The war was ignited in the year 1789 by all the greatest famine ever.

  • people all around the country suffered from starvation, and prices of grain and bread soared beyond the possible.

  • Rumors of the government troops, who were roaming around and seizing all crops, also spread and caused great panic in the country.

  • The confusion led to many riots against the nobles and aristocrats and pushed the revolution further.

What were the results of the French Revolution:

  • The fall of the absolute Monarchy within a period of three years after ruling for many years.

  • The country became republic.

  • The political system which was once based on hierarchy, aristocracy, and religious privileges collapsed giving more rights to citizens and citizenship.

Main causes of the French Revolution:

  • Famine and starvation which extended into other European countries.

  • France was at the brink of bankruptcy.

  • Huge national debt which resulted from the many wars fought by Louis XVI.

  • Resentment of Royal absolution.

  • High unemployment.

What were the goals of the revolution:

  • It demanded equality amongst all people, especially men.

  • It also fought for liberty and fraternity.

  • Men were able to receive those rights with the declarative of the rights of men and the citizen, but woman were not mentioned as equal members of the same society.

  • Woman also started their own riots aiming towards being treated as equals to men: they also faced lots of resistance and were imprisoned and excited.
