The indicator
Indicators are important for knowing if a substance is an acid or an alkali.
There are two types of indicators
One is the Litmus paper and the oher one is a liquid form of litmus.

Colour changes for indications
In a red litmus paper the acid is red
but the alkali is blue
In a blue litmus paper the acid is red and the alkali stays blue
