What is an example of QUANTITATIVE Data (numbers)?

Graphs for Categorical Data
Bar Graph
Pictogram
Circle Graph/Pie Chart
5
Bar Graph
A bar graph is typically drawn on a horizontal and vertical axis; often the count is on the vertical axis and the categories are names on the horizontal axis.
6
Pictogram
A pictogram can be created in a few ways. Use images as a tally system wish complete or partial images.
7
Circle Graph or
Pie Chart
A circle graph, often referred to as a pie chart, is created by dividing a circle into sections that represent the percent of the total for each category.
8
Graphs for Quantitative Data
Histogram
Dot Plot
Box Plot
9
Histogram
A histogram is similar to a bar graph, but there are some key differences. First, instead of count and category, the axes show count and a number line marked at equal intervals. Each bar is a histogram represent how many data points lie between the numbers at the left and right boundaries.
10
Dot Plot
A dot plot shows every data point in the data set. This is shown on a number line, either with dots or with X's. A dot plot can show us the shape of the distribution as you quickly plot each number. You are able to see gaps in the data and where there might be possible outiers (numbers that don't fit).
11
Box Plot/Box and Whisker Plot
A box plot is used as a way to quickly look at the spread and general shape of a data set. These graphs show how the data is spread out and where the center (median) lies.
A box plot is created by plotting 5 critical point: the lowest point, the first (lower) quartile, the median(middle), the third (upper) quartile, and the highest point.

Describing Graphs of Quantitative Data
We want to talk about 3 things:
1.The Shape
2.The Spread
21
The Shape
Unimodal: There is one "mound" or one peak in the data.
Bimodal: There are two seperate "mounds" or two peaks in the data.
Uniform: The data is relatively level
22
The Spread
Symmetric: The data can be split approximately in the middle and both sides will look the same.
Right Skewed: There is a peak on the left and the "tail" on the right extreme
Left Skewed: There is a peak on the right and the "tail" on the left extreme
