LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

·        Explore the different Components and their requirements.

·        Understand the changes in the syllabus.

 The Cambridge IGCSE First Language English course mainly tests two areas of skills and understanding, namely:

Reading

writing.

At the exam, you will be assessed based on two papers:

Paper 1 Reading, and

Paper 2 Directed writing and composition.

Paper 1 Question 1 is based on two texts, Text A and B, which consists of a comprehension task (15 marks) and a summary task (10 marks).

Question 2 is based on Text C and this question is divided into Short answer questions (10 marks) and a Language task (15 marks).

Lastly, Question 3, also based on Text C, requires an Extended response to reading (25 marks).

Paper 2, Directed Writing and Composition has Section A Directed Writing, which is Question 1. This question tests students' skills of evaluating and developing information in a text (40 marks)

Question 2 is Composition which offers a choice of 4 questions: two descriptive and two narratives. You choose one question title and use the title to develop and write a composition (40 marks).
