India in the World.

The trans Indian Ocean routes, that connect the Europe in the West and the countries of East Asia, provide a strategic central location to India. The Deccan Peninsula extend beyond the Indian Ocean, thus helping India to establish contact with West Asia, Africa and Europe from the western coast and Southeast and East Asia from the eastern coast.

No country has a long coastline on the Indian Ocean as India has and indeed, it is India’s eminent position in the Indian Ocean, which justifies the naming of an Ocean after it.

13

Neighbours of India.

India shares its border with seven countries i.e. Afghanistan and Pakistan to the North-West. China, Bhutan and Nepal to the North. Myanmar and Bangladesh to the East.

Sri Lanka (from the South-East) and Maldives (from the South-West) are two countries with water borders.
