Adverbs are words that describe verbs.

Examples

Adverbs often answer these questions with verbs:

WHEN? - Yesterday Mr. Norton napped with Calypso.

WHERE? - Mr. Norton walked downstairs to give Calypso treats.

HOW? - Calypso playfully rubbed her head against Mr. Norton

Adverb or Adjective

Adverbs and adjectives both describe words.

Adverbs describe verbs while adjectives describe nouns.
