Mexico City is not only the cpaital of the country, the Distrito Federal is also the center of Mexico's government, economy, culture and educational system. Internally known sites you might want to visit include El Palacio Nacional, el Museo de Antropología and one of the largest universities in the world, la Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM), among others.

Downtown, virtually every street offers an array of interesting sites and experiences, including Aztec ruins (la plaza de las Tres Culturas), beautiful parks (Alameda), museums and art galleries (el Palacio de Bellas Artes), as well as many interesting colonial buildings.
5
Like most large U.S. cities, downtown streets are crowded, noisy, polluted and frequently congested with traffic jams. In addition, early Spanish colonists constructed the city on top of the original Aztec capital, Tenochtitlán, which had been built on an island in the middle of Lake Texcoco. Parts of the city are now sinking because of this soft land, and this creates problems providing fresh drinking water to millions of residents.
6
When you travel to el D.F., you will experience a cosmopolitan atmosphere that is both similar to and yet very different from other cities in the world.
