What is electricity

  • Electricity is the form of energy caused by moving electrons. Electrons are apart of atoms.

  • Every atom is made up of 3 parts

  • Neutrons - atomic particle with a neutral electric charge

  • Electrons - atomic particle with a negative electric charge(-)

  • Protons - Atomic particles with a positive electric charge (+)

3

The Atom/ Electrons

  • Atoms are everywhere. In the air, water, soil, or any medium imagined there are atoms ready to react with other atoms.

  • The Electron is constantly moving from atom to atom because its tired of the negative space its in. It will move away from other Electrons.

  • It will move to a new area that has a lot of positivity in it. This is where it runs into some new neighbors. The protons and Neutrons.

4

The Proton

Protons will always stick to neutrons and other protons like best friends. Protons are always positive, when it finds a group of neutrons then it will happily join them.

But a proton will keeps its distance from other Protons because there's too much joy in one spot so they have to spread out to find Neutrons.

These are Atoms!

The Red particles are the electrons.

The Blue and purple are neutrons and protons.

6

The Neutron

  • Neutrons are just there they aren't positive but they are negative either.

  • They don't mind having protons and electrons in the atom but when an electron moves away or into a new area. Trouble stirs

  • The Neutron becomes electrically charged because it can't control the situation.

  • When the number of protons and electrons are equal the atom remains neutral and creates an element

Lesson summary

Electricity is a form of energy caused by moving electrons.

Atoms are made up of 3 particles: Electrons, Protons. and Neutrons.

Electrons are negatively charged particles and they're always moving.

Protons and Neutrons are positive and neutral

If the same charged particle (Electrons and Protons) "Come together" they spread apart.
