We use the present simple for

• habits and routines (things happen regulary, go with always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never, every day, twice a week,...)

• a pernament (long-lasting) situation or fact (truth)

  Ex: We live in HCM city / Water boils at 100^oC

• (school, train, bus,...) timetables and schedules

• in future time clauses starting with when, as soon as, before, after, if,...

• Ex: On Saturday nights, my friend and I get together to watch a movie after he finishes work. He calls when he leaves work. I pick out some snacks before he arrives. We select a movie when he gets here. We start the movie as soon as we finish getting ready.
