Biodiversity in Tropical Rainforests
The rainforest has more plants and animals in an environment (Biodiversity) than any other place on earth
The location and climate is the reason for all these organisms living together.
Just North and South of the Equator (23 degrees) is very warm and wet
This region gets plenty of sun and rain so it can support life of many plants and animals
5
Multiple Choice
An ecosystem with many different plants and animals living together has___________
biodiversity
a sweet set-up
6
Multiple Choice
This biodiversity is a result of _________ and ____________
strengths and weakness'
climate and location
apple and onion
7
Multiple Choice
The rain forests are located 23 degrees north and south of the ____________
equator
danger zone
8
9
Biodiversity in Tropical Rainforests
The rainforest receives between 80 and 400 inches of rain a year
They get 12 hours of sunlight a day and average 80 degrees a day
Its hot. humid, and full of life
10
Multiple Select
The rain forest receives /has lots and lots of
rain
sun
plant/animal life
heat
pyramids

Layers of the Rainforest
The rainforest consists of 4 layers/ecosystems
Each ecosystem has its own temperature, amount of light, and moisture level
1) Emergent Layer- This is the tops of the trees. It gets plenty of sun and contains birds, butterfly's and monkeys
2) Canopy- This is just below the emergent. Its the thick vegetation that blocks the floor from the sun and creates a roof over the remaining 2 layers
Canopy- has plenty of food therefore plenty of animals live there like snakes and tree frogs
13
Multiple Choice
The rainforest has ________
many secrets........If those trees could talk, right?
4 layers
14
Multiple Select
Each layer has its own
temperature
moisture level
amount of light
zip code
15
Multiple Choice
The top layer is the__________ layer.
canopy
floor
emergent
16
Multiple Select
Emergent layer
lowest point
highest point
plenty of sun
monkeys, butterflies, and birds
17
Multiple Choice
Below the emergent layer is the _________
core
crust
canopy
18
Multiple Select
The canopy layer
thick vegetation
blocks bottom 2 layers
tree frogs and snakes
plenty of food
pointless layer

Layers of the Rainforest
3) Understory- The layer below the canopy. a hot, humid environment made up of shrubs, young trees, and vines.
the lack of sunlight means everything grows tall in order to reach the sunlight
Lots of insects in this layer including ants, beetles, and bees
21
Layers of the Rainforest
4) The rainforest floor is the last layer
It is dark and humid.
No sunlight (2%) reaches the floor so there are no plants, only land animals like jaguars and leopards.
22
23
Multiple Choice
Below the canopy is the________
understory
overstory
middlestory
24
Multiple Select
The understory
hot, humid
lots of shrubs and vines etc. that grow tall to reach sun
lots of insects
not a lot of sun
book under book
25
Multiple Choice
The final layer is the_______
rainforest floor
best layer..woot woot!!
26
Multiple Select
Rainforest floor
dark, humid
no sunlight
very few plants
insects and jaguars ( land animals)
famous picnic spot

Tropical Rainforest
Goliath bird-eating spider (tarantula)
lives on the rain-forest floor waiting for its prey of insects ,snakes, small animals and birds
This spider is a carnivore (It eats meat) and leaves behind food to decompose/get eaten by scavengers
29
Multiple Select
Goliath bird-eating spider
eats birds (carnivore)
lives on forest floor
tiny and adorable
big and dangerous
makes a great house pet

31
Tropical Rainforest- Part II
The rain forest and all of its trees provide oxygen for humans and animals
We breath in the oxygen they produce and use carbon dioxide
The trees "inhale" that carbon dioxide and "exhale" oxygen
Primarily that carbon helps the plants to feed themselves through photosynthesis
32
Multiple Choice
The rainforest provides humans and animals with____________
oxygen
electricity
33
Multiple Choice
In return the rainforest uses our carbon dioxide we exhale to make food through_________
photosynthesis
magic spells
witch craft
34
35
How are rainforests beneficial to humans?
scientists believe the rain forest contains more than half of all species on earth
maybe even thousands of species still undiscovered
Some undiscovered bacteria and plants can hold the cure to many different diseases.
36
Multiple Choice
scientists believe it contains ________
more than half the species on earth
more problems than a math book
37
Multiple Choice
Many of the undiscovered species of plants and bacteria might hold_______
the cure to many diseases
the record for being so cool and different

Tropical Rainforest: Part III
The largest rain forests can be found in South America, Africa, and South East Asia
They used to be much larger but humans have played a major role in the shrinking of them
They have been cut down for farming, to make wood products, or even develop on the land ( houses, buildings etc.)
40
Multiple Select
Rainforest locations
Canada
South America
Africa
South East Asia
41
Multiple Select
Currently, rainforest are
growing
shrinking
being developed on ( houses, roads, buildings etc)
being farmed on
42
Tropical Rainforest: Part III
The "old man of the forest"- the orangutan, is just one such victim of humans deforestation.
The orangutan is found exclusively in Asia and the habitat is still shrinking.
43
Multiple Choice

Asia
North America
