The answers to weather questions involve the use of hacer-

* hace sol- it is sunny

* hace viento- it is windy

* hace calor- it is hot

* hace fresco- it is cool

* hace buen tiempo- it is good weather

* hace mal tiempo- it is bad weather

Weather events-

* granizar-to hail

* llover- to rain

* lloviznar- to drizzle

* nevar- to snow

* tronar- to thunder

When talking about current weather conditions it is common to use the present progressive tense-

* está lloviendo- it is raining

*está nevando- it is snowing

* está granizando- it is hailing

* está tronando- it is thundering

You can also use a form of ESTAR together with a weather adjective to describe current conditions-

* está nublado- it is cloudy
