MET308 Final Quizizz Lesson

MET308 Final Quizizz Lesson

Quiz 5 will cover

• Chapters 19 and 20: Forced and Natural Convection

• Chapter 21: Radiation

• Chapter 22: Heat exchangers

Multiple Choice

Blowing on your taco bell to cool it down is an example of

• forced convection

• natural convection

• radiation

• conduction

forced convection

is convection with external flow control.

you can control how hard you blow on it!

natural convection

would occur anyway without your doing anything.

Multiple Choice

We need the grashof number when the problem involves

• natural convection

• forced convection

• conduction

the grashof number helps us quantify the buoyant effects

These currents are what cause natural convection

Multiple Choice

the nusselt number helps us find what?

• the convective heat transfer coefficient, h

• the thermal conductivity, k

• the prandtl number, Pr

• the view factor F

things we can find in tables

• thermal conductivity, k

• the prandtl number, Pr

• the viscosity, $\nu$

we cannot find h in tables

bummer!

Multiple Select

check ALL that apply: which of these can we find in charts?

• the view factor

• the air velocity

• number of transfer units, NTU

• moody friction factor

Fill in the Blanks

in heat exchanger problems, lmtd stands for

Multiple Choice

This picture shows

• parallel-flow

• counter-flow

the equations needed for calculating lmtd changes!

Counter flow and parallel flow define $\Delta T_1,\ \Delta T_2$  differently.
