Electricity Review
2
Current
The movement of electrons.
Flows from high potential energy to low potential energy.
Electrons need a force to begin moving along a circuit.
3
Visualizing Current
The negative terminal of a battery has tons of electrons.
When forced, they leave, complete the circuit, and return to the positive terminal.
Resistors slow them down.
4
Chemical Cells
Produce voltage through Chemical Reactions.
Contain two electrodes - different pieces of metal - and electrolyte.
Stop producing voltage when the material(s) run out.
5
Solar Cells
Convert the energy in sunlight to electrical energy.
Contain a material such as silicon that absorbs light energy, knocking electrons loose so they can flow freely and produce a difference in electric potential energy.
6
Ammeters
Measures the current traveling through the circuit.
Have a very low resistance.
Must be connected in series to work properly.
7
Voltmeters
Measures the voltage drop across a resistor in a circuit.
Have a very high resistance.
Must be connected in parallel to accurately measure the voltage drop.
